~Logging into our Network/Chat~
When you click the link to the Triviachat java site, you will get a prompt for a
nickname. You can leave the Guest nickname there if you choose, or you can type in a nickname of your choice.
Please note if you type in a nick that is in use or registered and protected, your nickname will be automatically changed to a Guest nickname. This isn't a big problem, you can change it when you arrive by typing: /nick "your chosen nickname"
Below the nickname option is the
password box (this is N/A until you have
registered your nickname.)
Below that is a box to reveal your
age (this is not necessary to fill in)
Please note that we prefer that our users are over the age of 18. Below the age box is a check box option for your
gender. This is also not necessary, as you will note there is a click box for "unknown" gender.
The next option box is for your
location. It is not necessary to reveal your location. If you do not wish for others to know where you are, leave this box blank or type in a bogus location ie Mars, Venus. (you get the idea)
Now you're ready to click
Ok.
Once you've clicked ok, you will be logged onto our network. You will see our MOTD (Message of The Day)This screen is called your status screen.

Next you'll be joined to the channel (Trivia chatroom). If Trivia is not running, type: !start. Trivia will begin to ask questions.

~Navigating the Chat Window~
At the top you'll see five buttons: "channels" - "users" - "options" - "help" - "logout"

The
channels button allows you to see the chatrooms available on our network. To join one of those rooms - type: /j channel name.

The
users button allows you to see the other users (and their stats) on our network.
Please note this button only allows you to see the users and statistics of others using the java chat client. You will not have access to the statistics of those users who are using a chat client such as mIRC.The
options button is an important button. Below is a list of controls available to you via the options button.

When you open the options dialog box you will see six buttons: "dialogs" - "preferences" - "colors" - "sound" - "chanop" - "advanced"
Dialogs - with this button you can control several things.
Your first click option is
"no new private messages". This prevents other users from talking to you in private. If another user messages you, you will not get a message window.
Next option is
"show invitations". This allows you to see the invitations to other chatrooms that you may receive. These invitations will appear in your status window.
By clicking the
"focus on private messages" box, you will be alerted by a sound that you have received a new private message and the message window will be on top of the channel window and the status window.
At the bottom of the
Dialogs settings box, you'll see a box to type in a
quit message. This allows you to send a message to all users in the channel when you logout.
The second button under the option
preferences Here you will find several useful click boxes.

The first click box is
"show join or part in the channel"by clicking this box you are able to see when users join and part the channel.
Below the join/part option is the
"filter attributes" click box.
This allows you to play Trivia without the color. This is especially useful if you find it's difficult on your eyes.
Next click box option you will see is
"show bullet or symbol". By clicking the symbols box you will see ~ @ + in front of nicknames. These are channel modes describing the various privilages that the person has on the channel. By clicking bullet, you will see colored dots, instead of the symbols.
Smooth or Fast scrolling is the next on the list of click boxes in the preference. We recommend the fast scrolling, which is set as default.
Next you will find a pulldown menu to change the style of your
"character font" and beside that is a box to change the size. Type in a lower number for smaller font, and a larger number for larger font.

The
colors button allows you to change the colors of your chat window.
By sliding the bars you can adjust it to your preferred color.
Also there is an option to write in a different color. You are allowed to type in colors in #cyberchat, however the Trivia bot does not recognize the colors on this client. Though you might type the right answer you will not be given credit.

The next button is the
"sounds". Here you can control the sounds.
You can leave them on, or off, or off when you are away. Also note there are several pull down menus to change the sounds. Sounds are played for different events that occur in the channel.
Joins and parts. (these are set to no sounds by default) Giving and taking away of
"privilages". (this is are the channel modes discussed above in the bullets/symbols section)
Bans and Kicks (bans are rare in cyberchat as are kicks)
Private messages and channel messages (we recommend no sounds for channel messages, for obvious reasons.)
The
chanop button is N/A for regular users. In the event you are invited to be a channel operator in CyberChat, you will be guided through downloading different chat client.
The
Advanced button is also for Administators, and N/A for regular users.

The
Help button contains the smiley codes. It's self explanatory.
In there you'll see the smile, and what to type to show it in the channel or private chat.
Also note that only those using the java chat client can see these smiles. The last button is
logout. This is also self explanatory. Click it and you're logged out of the server and the chat.

Lastly, on the bottom of the chat window are your status, channel, and private message buttons. You can toggle between these windows by clicking those buttons.
If you find that you're in need of additional help, please feel free to join our help channel by typing: /j #help.
