One of my great musical heros, Jerry Reed, died on Sunday. In the UK he was known mainly as an actor, in movies like Smokey and the Bandit - I dunno how he was perceived in the USA, but it's not widely known on this side of the pond that he was a gifted man in many different fields. He wrote songs, he sang and played guitar in a variety of styles - I'd say he was one of the very best guitar players I've ever heard (and I've heard thousands!!!) and one of my favourite players. He could play jazz, rock, folk and country type music just about as well as they can be played, and amongst other things he wrote the Elvis hit song 'Guitar Man', and played on the recording of it.
This is him playing a tune which he wrote, as a duet with Chet Atkins -
RIP
